Memorial Ground Improvements

Hi everyone

Memorial Ground Improvements

I just wanted to bring you all up to speed on some exciting new developments taking place at the Memorial Ground in April.

As many will know, with the senior teams moving to Brinkley the aim has always been to develop the Memorial Ground into our hub for junior football for 5, 7 and 9-a-side teams.

The first stage of this process will begin on Saturday 23rd April, when we start moving 5 and 7-a-side pitches in front of the clubhouse, onto what was the main first team pitch. Unfortunately the grass is not in great condition right now, and will need treatment over the summer, but we should be ready to open at least two 5-a-side pitches on this date.

The move to the new pitches ties in with work being carried out on the clubhouse. We have ripped the kitchen out and have refitted the facilities to allow Nellie at the Park to move in and take charge of all of our matchday catering.

From the 23rd, Nellie will be offering barista coffee, other hot drinks, and hot food, such as bacon and sausage cobs. She will be open all day on match days and possibly on some training nights.

Team managers will also be pleased to hear that we will now also be offering complimentary hospitality for home and away teams on match days. Free chip cobs will be available for all teams after games. We are sure all of our young players will love this after match treat. And you can invite the away team along too. We will set up a simple booking system for you to use to take advantage of this new facility.

Another new development will be Friday Night Football, which we hope to introduce when the weather is nice over the summer. The plan is to open the clubhouse, lay on some football for the kids, and open the bar and BBQ for the adults. More to come on this shortly.

Finally, we are back to training on grass next week. With new teams coming through, and a big demand for pitch use, we are having to shuffle training times about a tiny bit to fit everybody in. I will publish the timetable over the weekend, but we do ask that managers are flexible and will go along with the plan. As you can see, the exec committee is working hard to offer a great experience for players, coaches and parents when they come down to the MG. We hope that all managers will work with us to make this club one that we are all proud of.

Have a great weekend,

John
On behalf of the Southwell City Exec Committee
