We’re delighted to announce that our long-serving Club Secretary Geoff Ritson has been awarded the Peter Burton Secretary of the Year Award by the Nottinghamshire Youth Football League.
The award recognises Geoff’s outstanding commitment to Southwell City FC over more than 20 years in his voluntary role. Martin Beardsley from the NYFL praised Geoff for operating “commendably” in his position and acknowledged the significant contribution he has made to grassroots football in our area.
The Peter Burton Award is named after a well-respected figure in Nottinghamshire football who did so much for the game locally. It’s fitting that Geoff should receive this honour, given his own dedication to our club and the wider football community.
Geoff was genuinely surprised to receive the award, saying it was “a great honour and privilege” and noting that it already has “pride of place on my mantelpiece.”
As part of the recognition, the NYFL has also awarded the club £500 towards a new football kit for one of our youth teams, which will help support our continued development of young players in Southwell.
All of us at Southwell City FC are incredibly proud of Geoff’s achievement. His tireless work behind the scenes has been fundamental to our success as a community club, and this award is richly deserved recognition for his years of service.
Congratulations Geoff!
